footprint

1. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS- BLOG POST- 20 POINTS

  1. What is a digital footprint?

In the words of the article a digital footprint is” all the stuff you post online on your social media accounts, in comment sections, while playing an app or sending an email. Every retweet, like or +1 is part of your online history, and could potentially be seen by people who are outside your circle of friends and acquaintances.” I guess that in a way it's like your instagram, twitter, facebook activity and even more. Your digital footprint is basically your internet history. You gotta keep it cleared if that makes sense. An example would be an incident with a youtuber that had some history on twitter when they had an opinion that was racially wrong and it was a few years back and they weren't able to clear it.

  1. If I decided to create a digital footprint what would happen?

First of If you leave a digital footprint you control what you leave. You are the only one that determines what is put on that footprint. So if you wanted to leave a comment or a tweet of you saying racial slurs to someone and don't delete it or anything people will remember it or will dig through your account to find it. An example of this is the multiple people on tiktok, instagram and youtube that have been cancelled due to the past being brought back on their social media accounts like shane dawson when he allegedly was soliciting minors 10 years ago. There is video evidence that was one of his older videos.

The purpose of this assignment is to get us thinking of what we leave on the internet. I feel like the question is how can we prevent having a digital footprint that will have a bad outlook on us?

  1. Your statement had relevancy in it when you said "...due to the past being brought back on their social media accounts like shane dawson when he allegedly was soliciting minors 10 years ago." What we post on the internet never really disappears, so we must be cautious and mindful about what we post and if it aligns with the type of message we want to get across!

  2. Aloha Caleb, Your statement has BREADTH in it when you said "Your digital footprint is basically your internet history. You gotta keep it cleared if that makes sense." It makes sense to me, and this is at the heart * encompasses the entirety of this week's assignment. I have two children whom I constantly remind that when it comes to the internet, which includes Digital Foot Print, nothing ever completely goes away or disappears. Good Job - BMK
