collaboration and connection

A connection by definition is "a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with something else." and a Collaboration by definition is "the action of working with someone to produce or create something." I would say that a Connection would be a bond whether it is deep or not you still can feel it or see it through actions. Collaboration would still be used by the google definition because that's what I think collaboration is. My own example of this would be me having a connection to a friend both in real life and online and making a collaborative story together to publish it under our names. Both of these are fairly similar the only difference is one involves relationships the other is just a mutual partnership.

You and one or more people basically make something together and focus on the same goal by working through the same problems which make it more complex and force you into unnatural grounds that make it so you need to listen to each other. I would say this is like when people work on a video game together. They need to get the game out by a certain date and have it running smoothly before the game is published. The thing is that they are all Indie Video game developers that made their own games in the past by themselves so now they need to make one together which forces them to listen and look at each other in a work environment that they don't really get into. Collaborative communication is about teamwork and being able to work on a singular thing.

The purpose of the assignment is to have students understand communication and collaboration. It is also to have more knowledge of Collaborative Communication so that we can form bonds in life.

The key question at the heart of the assignment is how can we make connections in life and how can we use those connections to collaborate with the people we have connections with?

Part 2 Intellectual standards

  1. Depth

    1. I understand that "depth" means containing complexities and multiple interrelationships, which implies thoroughness in thinking through the many variables in the situation, context, idea, question.

    2. In other words, I think this means that you go through every nook and cranny you can think of when a problem or statement is more complex than you think it really is.

    3. An example of someone exhibiting depth with social media would be someone posting the Xbox slogan for The Xbox series X which is "Power your Dreams" on a green background. With this, someone who doesn't know about Microsoft and Xbox wouldn't know about what it means because it lacks context.

  2. Breadth

    1. I understand that "breadth" means encompassing multiple viewpoints, comprehensive in view, wide-ranging and broadminded in perspective.

    2. In other words, Its incorporating multiple people's views and not just one person.

    3. An example of someone exhibiting breadth with social media would be someone talking about multi-culturalism with people of other cultures and getting their view of if white is a culture or not.

  3. Logic

    1. I understand that "logic" means the parts make sense together, no contradictions; in keeping with the principles of sound judgment and reasonability

    2. In other words, If everything makes sense when it is together then it must mean it is correct.

    3. An example of someone exhibiting logic with social media would be if a streamer on Twitter tweeted a post about Call of duty having a New operator next season from the leaked images and the company Sledgehammer confirms that the new operator will be in the game midway through the next season.

  4. Significance

    1. I understand that "significance" means having importance, being of consequence; having considerable or substantial meaning.

    2. In other words, it is a very special or important thing and it holds value

    3. An example of someone exhibiting significance with social media would be a post about a pokemon card that is special to someone because it was one of their first cards as a child. But that card also dates back to 1995 and is part of a rare collection that held value aka money.

  5. Fairness

    1. I understand that "fairness" means being free from bias, dishonesty, favoritism, selfish interest, deception, or injustice.

    2. In other words, it is equal that's what it is, there are no tricks being pulled.

    3. An example of someone exhibiting fairness with social media would be a post talking about how voting for a presidential candidate was rigged but was proven not to be.

The concepts of the intellectual standards are there to keep everything on the internet/social media in order with stuff like Depth and logic. I guess it also shows us the cause and effect of social media because someone can say something but it could be wrong or right depending on the context.

  1. The purpose of the assignment is to get the reader to understand all of the intellectual standards of social media and how it is used daily.

The key question at the heart of the assignment is How can these intellectual standards help you in daily life?

Community Assignment

What is a community, what is a connection, and how are they related?

A community is a group of people that come together to create a place where people can either experience or share their experience with others whether it's online or in real life. In other words, it's a vast connection of people that are part of something that they enjoy. These people can be connected either online or in real life. A community can be different in people's minds for example a community could be from 30 people to 100,000 or even more. It really depends on the context. An example of a community on social media would be the star wars community, It is linked to many social networks like Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, youtube, and many more.

If you decided to create an online community to connect what would happen?

Well if I started a community I would probably be for the gaming community and it would most likely reside on either TikTok, Youtube, Reddit, or discord. I feel like if I made a community it would either not do well because I have a hard time socializing or I would get help from people I trust like my friends and they would be my moderators to help me grow my community. So in other words making a community is not easy and needs your attention so that it can thrive and continue to grow. A perfect example of this would be how Social media influencers create a community behind them like Jacksepticeye, Bella Poarch, or DanTDM.

I feel like the Purpose of this assignment was to make us think of communities that we are part of or ones we have seen.

I feel like the key question at heart is how can we make a Community and what connections we can make within the communities we are part of.

Intellectual standards

 Clarity

I understand that "clarity" means to be understand something without confusion

In other words, Clarity is like having an empty mind that's free to think without having any blockage. I guess it could also be more of having the ability to see things in a brighter light.

An example of someone exhibiting clarity with social media would be when someone express their opinion on a topic on reddit and they provide you with a clear and simple example using logic?

Accuracy

I understand that "accuracy" means having pinpoint examples that are ture.

In other words, think of a sniper you got to be accurate to hit your shot. The same logic applies here: you have to be exact to get your argument or statement across.

An example of someone exhibiting accuracy with social media would be stating a cited or credible source on the topic about how Video games do not cause more gun violence on somebody's gun rant on twitter to show them they are wrong.

Precision

I understand that "precision" is to be specific on something.

In other words, its like a doctor doing a surgery they have to be precise and careful on their cuts and their movements.

An example of someone exhibiting precision with social media would be a post on tiktok being vague on the political parties and how they support one party because they support gay rights but they are told that they werent precise on their choice because they go against other things that arnt correct.

Relevance

I understand that "relevance" is to be the recent thing to be talked about.

In other words, its like the word around the town kind of deal. Its talked about alot and its basically the topic everyone is focused on.

An example of someone exhibiting relevance with social media would be a person who became tiktok famous for doing a dance that has become popular because it is the new thing to do.

The purpose of the assignment is to make us think of the Intellectual standards and understand the ways to use them.

The key question at the heart of the assignment is to understand how these standards are used daily in social media.

Social media messages

The Media is simply a construct of Carefully crafted decisions that result in numerous solutions that contribute to the ever-growing images of the reality that we live in. In short social media is where we display ourselves in a fashion that doesn't reflect who we really are.

Social media is really just a way to make something up.

In other words, I guess you could say that majority of social media is fake.

I guess an example can be when someone is called a groomer when there is no factual evidence that points to that claim towards that person.

The social media messages that we see shape our reality and how we see it. The way we perceive reality is based on the attitudes and interpretations that are pre-built on the Internet. We also choose to share the content with other people depending on what we truly see for reality, and not just follow a trend and become cattle.

Social media can be a way to widen our view of the world.

In other words, Social media is a place that we can feel open to share anything and see and hear what we want.

An example could be sharing a TikTok to my friend that is in the military about the Afghanistan retreat to see what he says about it and learn more. Maybe?

Social media caters to different people. It is shown to people that will interpret the information differently by building an understanding of reality that has several individual factors. Factors such as personal needs, or Standpoints on a topic. Even though posting online can fuel these, we don't realize who is looking at the content we produce. As a person, we may look at our post that could be intended to find a love interest but People will sometimes see it as a threat to themselves. Our content can be interpreted by an audience that wasn't meant for them.

The main thing I got from this is that everyone interprets it differently.

In other words, Everyone looks at it differently and some people may or may not agree with that idea.

An example of this could be differing views don't Trans people needing to tell their partner if they are trans or not, Some people deem it necessary like me while others see it a not needed because they are no longer the gender they previously were.

In a sense, social media Embeds points of view. Social media is a big advertisement of reality by showing us what is right and what is wrong, It shares a message of ideas and consumerism or even that of Gender roles and identity.

An important part of what I thought when stating this in my words was Viewpoints that have been embedded.

In other words, I feel like these are POV's of people that look at it only in that certain way and can't see the bigger picture.

An example can be the debate of if the Covid vaccine is good or bad for you. Both sides will say their points but won't really see each other's views on the subject.

The purpose of this assignment is to understand and analyze different concepts that are part of social media.

The key questions at the heart of this assignment is, to learn about how Social media is used in the world we callreality.

Homework 2

 Intellectual Integrity

I understand that "Intellectual Integrity" Basically means to treat others the way you want to be treated. Or in other words, Respect the person even if you don’t agree with them. For instance, if someone was to do a certain act on social media that was a bit different then you don’t judge them, give them constructive criticism or advice that you would want people to give you make sure you are nice about it so that they know its not hostility either.

Intellectual Independence

I understand that "Intellectual Independence" is when someone has the ability to form their own thoughts, values, and ideas that have been guided by their own Rational. In other words, the person uses cognitive skills and credible sources to determine their opinion. An example would be politics used in media you won’t follow one candidate because they are the shunned on social media but instead will dive into why they are shunned to help form your own understanding

Intellectual Perseverance

I understand that "Perseverance" means Not backing down when you think all is lost. In other words, it means that Even if there are obstacles in your way you wont just accept defeat and lie down waiting for someone to move that obstacle out of the way. An example of this that can be used in social media is All of the influencers on Youtube, Twitch, TikTok, and more. They had rough battles getting to where they are but they still make their content for people and for themselves.

Intellectual Empathy

I understand that "Intellectual Empathy" is being able to understand the point of view that others are trying to make or in other words put yourself in their shoes. An example would be a debate in the comments of TikTok on a controversial topic that has been seen by each person and they acknowledge each person’s views to understand their feelings and opinions.

Intellectual Humility

I understand that "Intellectual Humility" Is knowing that you don’t know everything. Or we could say that you don’t have every answer in the world so you have to accept the defeat of others who know more about the situation. Social media can show a lot on this, for example, someone on Reddit accepting that they don’t know about a certain topic so they research more on it.

Intellectual Courage

I understand that "Intellectual Courage” is having the ability to be more confident in your topic because you believe in what you say. In other words, this means to speak your mind and follow your gut. Giving your opinion on social media about the Afghanistan pullout was a bad choice is an example of this because you are going to speak your mind.

Confidence in Reason

I understand that "Confidence in Reason " Basically means use your head to critically think so you can find a way to get the truth using logic and evidence. In other words, find ways to use your beliefs and other’s beliefs to find a concrete solution while also using credible sources as a base. An example could be someone referencing other’s points on the topic that have knowledge.

Fairmindedness

I understand that "Fairmindedeness" is finding a solution for everybody to agree on. In other words, you try and think of the people around you and take them into consideration. An example to this would be getting everyone’s points of view on a political topic on Twitter and seeing if they will listen to reason and share with them a compromise that will benefit all people.

The purpose of the assignment is to basically see if the students can use critical thinking and to evaluate the student's progress and understanding. I Don’t know. The key question at the heart of the assignment is to see if we can understand the different traits that we had to write about.

Social Media Tips
